The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers KUPPET has asked the Kenyan government to equip teachers with guns because they claim their lives are in danger  following the death of Mr Peter Omare a physics and computer teacher who was killed in line of duty. This was after the teacher confiscated a student’s phone later that day.

The KUPPET vice-chair Julius Korir said that if innocent teachers who are impacting life to student are at risk of losing their lives.   And he says that if students are planning and executing the murder of their teachers, it means no teacher is safe in the school environment. The best way to protect them is for the government to allow them to carry guns.

Mrs. Oduor who is a parent and also a teacher at Lugulu Girls High School states that this issue is good but also has got some disadvantages. She reinforces that what if the students get access to this fire arms and decide to shoot around during strikes or even small commotions at school.

Do you think giving teachers guns in terms of security is right.
