The school uniform debate dates back to a long time ago when some educational institutions across the country started thinking of making it compulsory for every child to wear school uniform while some were forced to let go of that tradition. This led to a huge national debate, whereby people strongly voiced their opinions on this subject. This invited the pressure of each school having to come up with a good combination of colors and patterns to ensure that all students represented the school well and in a great way too. As from these particular uniforms, I bet it was a total fail, lol

Let us look at both parts of the coin
According to proponents, school uniforms:
• Help prevent gangs from forming
on campus
• Encourage discipline
• Help students resist peer
pressure to buy trendy clothes
• Help identify intruders
in the school
• Diminish economic and
social barriers between students
• Increase a sense of
belonging and school pride
• Improve attendance
Opponents contend that school uniforms:
• Violate a student’s right to
freedom of expression
• Are simply a Band-Aid on
the issue of school violence
• Make students a target
for bullies from other schools
• Are a financial burden
for poor families
• Are an unfair additional
expense for parents who pay taxes for a free public education
• Are difficult to enforce
in public schools
Teachers argue that uniforms are a way of building equality among all students while at the same time creating a great brand for the school itself. They too have to deal with what people term as ‘pimping’ the school uniforms to appear shorter, tighter or prettier.

It has hence brought a great deal of disagreements with some of the reasons against uniforms building up. We all know that Uniforms aim to give everybody a homogeneous look, right? But Instead of improving a student’s self-image because he looks just like the others, it actually does the opposite.

Students have different weights, body types and heights. Whenever one looks at himself in the mirror, he depreciates his self-image because he feels like he doesn’t look his best. For girls, it can be outright detrimental since they tend to be pretty sensitive about their outlook and how clothes make them feel about themselves. I personally would vote for ban of school uniforms any day. Share your views below.
